Ultrafiltration membrane and reverse osmosis membrane are both filter membrane products that operate on the principle of membrane separation, mainly used in the field of water treatment. These two filter membrane products are used by many users who have water treatment needs. Although both ultrafiltration membranes and reverse osmosis membranes are used in the field of water treatment, there are many differences between them.
The differences between ultrafiltration membrane and reverse osmosis membrane are very large, including but not limited to: the difference in molecular weight of interception, the difference in water intake conditions, the difference in application field, the difference in produced water quality and the difference in price. These differences are elaborated as follows:
1. Difference in molecular weight of interception. The interception molecular weight of the reverse osmosis membrane is >100, which can intercept all organic matter, dissolved salt, ions and other substances with molecular weight greater than 100, so that water molecules and substances with molecular weight less than 100 can pass through; The molecular weight of the ultrafiltration membrane is >10000, which can be trapped into biofilms, proteins, macromolecular substances, so that inorganic salts, small molecular substances and water can pass through. From the difference in the molecular weight of the interception, it can be seen that the filtration accuracy of the reverse osmosis membrane is much higher than that of the ultrafiltration membrane.
2. Difference in water conditions. In general, the turbidity requirements of ultrafiltration membranes for intake water are lower than those of reverse osmosis membranes, and there is little difference in intake water temperature and pH. The requirements of the ultrafiltration membrane are lower than those of the reverse osmosis membrane, so the ultrafiltration membrane can withstand the water with worse water quality.
3. Differences in application fields. Although both ultrafiltration membrane and reverse osmosis membrane are filters that operate on the principle of membrane separation, they are very different in application fields due to many factors such as filtration accuracy, system design, and structural characteristics. Reverse osmosis membrane is mainly used in brackish water desalination, pure water preparation, special separation and other fields, ultrafiltration membrane is mainly used in sewage treatment, pure water preparation pretreatment and production of drinking water and other fields.
4. Difference in produced water quality. The quality of the water produced is mainly related to the filtration accuracy of the filter membrane and the intake water quality, the reverse osmosis membrane is not only higher than the ultrafiltration membrane in filtration accuracy, its intake water quality is also better than the ultrafiltration membrane, so the water quality of the reverse osmosis membrane is better than the ultrafiltration membrane, or less impurities, more clean.
5. Price difference. Ultrafiltration membranes and reverse osmosis membranes have many types , but in general, the price of reverse osmosis membranes is more expensive than ultrafiltration membranes.
